the installation
stage 1: the survey
The first vital step in your new Resin Bound Surface. Our highly experienced surveyor will conduct a survey at your property at a time to suit you. We will discuss the aspects of the project from ground works and base requirements to colours of stone. Once the survey has been conducted and the project discussed we will then provide you with a costing for the works and the relevant details of your proposed project
stage 2: Receiving Your Quotation
After our initial site visit, we will send you a detailed costing either by email or post. The costing will contain the stages of works needed to complete your project and a lump sum cost to carry out all the works, so you know exactly where you are in terms of your budget. We will also send out the Bespoke Stone Blend brochure and the standard stone brochure for you to browse over. If you wish to proceed with the works then you simply contact the office, and we will arrange an installation date. Once this is confirmed we shall arrange a second site visit where we will leave you with the sample boxes of the stone colours available, you then let us know the stone you would like, and we will proceed with the installation on the confirmed date
stage 3: Ground Works and Base Preparation
This is the first stage of the Resin Bound Stone installation process and is highly important. Resin bound systems require a stable subbase and base to which the resin bound system can be applied. A typical base for a resin bound driveway or another surface, whether new or existing, is tarmac, asphalt, concrete, or reinforcement grids. We can overlay flags for foot traffic only, but these must be stable, have stable joints and have been laid correctly with no signs of failure. We cannot overlay block paving for vehicle traffic due to block paving being susceptible to joint movement and sinking.
We can overly your existing tarmac or concrete driveway with minimum preparation and this means that the Resin Bound Surface is a very affordable option to transform your existing tired looking driveway, patio, pathway etc
types of base
concrete
We can lay directly onto existing concrete with little preparation or if required we can form a new concrete base
Reinforcement Grids
These are used where there is no form of drainage or SUDS compliance is required as they allow water to pass through and naturally soak away. They provide a stable sub-base that can take the weight of 20-ton + vehicles. They are quick to install and provide a very cost-effective subbase for your install
Asphalt / Tarmac
We can lay directly onto existing tarmac with little preparation or if required we can form a new tarmac base
Existing Steps
We can edge the steps with specialist aluminium edging beads and then lay the Resin Bound Stone giving your steps and brand-new modern look
stage 4: Installing Your Resin Bound Surface
Once the base has been completed, drain covers changed etc it is onto the actual installation of the surface. On the day of installation, we shall arrive and set up our work area ensuring all areas to be Resin Bound are clean and ready for installation. Once ready we will install your new Resin Bound Surface.
Set up:
The work area is set up and covered with protective sheeting. The mixes are laid out and the areas to be Resin Bound and prepared
The Mixing:
The mixing of the resin and stone is carried out to precise timings and measurements by our highly skilled and experienced team. The stone is added to the forced action mixer, the resin is then mixed and added, all done to the same timings and measures for each mix
The Levelling and Laying of the Stone:
Once the mixing is complete, we then transfer the mix to the laying area. It is then laid and levelled either by using our specialist Resin Bound Sledge or by using bars. We use several different methods to get the stone level to give the best possible finish, this will depend on the base type and existing levels
The Finishing:
After the screeding out of the stone the finishing is applied by a highly skilled and experienced troweler. The stone is hand finished using a combination of technics and specialist trowels to give a smooth sealed finish. Once the stone has been trowelled off it then receives a dusting of very fine glass which makes the whole surface anti slip with out any change to the colour or texture of the surface.
